NPR Interview with Rick Kleffel, posted 2008-05-18 by I.F.
My first NPR interview with Rick Kleffel aired this morning. If you missed the broadcast, I recommend that you check it out online here.
This is a widely syndicated show with a broad reach, and Rick was really a fantastic interviewer - I enjoyed doing this one quite a bit. Shortly after the broadcast, the Amazon ranking spiked pretty considerably. As of right now, it's in the top 50 most popular Teen's Books:
NY Comic-Con Article, posted 2008-05-02 by Zyid
The Village Voice recently did a nice article on the New York Comic Con, which the author attended as a panel guest.
You can read the entire article here."Isamu Fukui, a Stuyvesant High School student whose S-F novel Truancy (Tor) imagines an urban dystopia in which schools are no better than prisons, was a guest star at this con because he has much in common with these kick-ass comics legends, who also published young and had minds of their own."
Esquire "Last Line" Article, posted 2008-04-26 by Zyid
The author recently wrote an article for Esquire.com about his experience as a writer and a student. It is now posted and can be viewed at the Esquire website.

If anyone is interested, I will be on one of the guest panels tomorrow at the New York Comic-Con.
You can catch me in Room 1E08 from 2-3pm on Saturday for the "New York City Through Its Authors" panel. Shortly after that, I will be signing copies of Truancy at the Books of Wonder booth, #2404 on the convention floor until 4pm.
Booklist Review, posted 2008-04-17 by Zyid
This is a major review, and a pretty decent one too. It's viewable in its entirety at Booklist Online. Most teens, however, will take the combat scenes in the graphic novel–influenced manner in which they were presumably intended, and many will hear—and embrace—the passionate critique of high-school experience wrapped within the Truants's battle cry: “All kids are branded as a single faceless mass and herded through school like cattle.”
Media Updates, posted 2008-04-03 by I.F.
Three updates today - first off a podcast from an interview I did with Fanboy Radio.
Second we have an article posted on Wired's GeekDad blog.
And finally, an awesome review by Rick Kleffel, who has previously interviewed me.

First one from Sci Fi Wire, where the author had a prior interview, and a second from curledupkids.com. Both are pretty positive. Check them out if you like - or better yet read the book yourself and make up your own mind.

The Moment of Truth!, posted 2008-03-04 by Zyid
As of half an hour ago, US Eastern Time, Truancy was officially released to the public! Truly a momentous occasion.
Of course, I walked into a Barnes and Noble yesterday and found that the book was already sitting there, but nevermind that.
The point is that you can now find Truancy in bookstores everywhere, and online at all major retailers. Go buy it!
Media Summary, posted 2008-03-02 by I.F.
So with Truancy coming out in just two days, things have been getting a bit busy. The Pop Syndicate feature was capped off with an interview and a column written by yours truly. There's a new review up on GeekScribe. Also another at Worlds of Wonder.
The New York Daily News will be doing a story on me and Truancy next week, and I also had an interview with National Public Radio. Not sure when that last one is going to air, but I'll post when I learn more.
I think that's about it for now. Cheers.
Pop Syndicate Feature, posted 2008-02-25 by I.F.
I'm participating in a week-long feature at Pop Syndicate. Each day a new article about Truancy will go up - starting with an author introduction today. I must say it's a bit odd reading about yourself on the internet.
You can check out the feature here.
Forum Issues, posted 2008-02-24 by Zyid
We're very thrilled to see people finally signing up on the forums. We are not so thrilled to realize that due to a slight technical error, no one was able to post until now.
My bad.
Anyway, things SHOULD be fixed now. If you are signed up on the forums and still unable to post...well, shoot me a PM. Thanks for being patient.

Review from The New Mexican, posted 2008-02-12 by Zyid
We are very pleased to note that Truancy has recieved an excellent review from www.santafenewmexican.com!
Click For Full Review"Isamu's first novel is a swift kick in the rump to the ordinary school system. It turns your perspective of the school system upside down and inside out...This is an exquisite example of writing and knowledge of the English language. It makes you feel emotions along with the main character, as well as making you feel as if you could be there with all of them."
Expect a lot more media coverage over the coming month as we approach the release date of March 4.
Forums Are Up, posted 2008-02-10 by Zyid
After a slight delay, the Truancy's official forums are now up. You can click the appropriate tab to the left at any time to find them. We are pleased that we got them working before most of the publicity for Truancy begins, but it is possible that in our haste to get things running we might have overlooked a kink or two. If you find any technical problems at all, please drop us a line.
Finished Copies, posted 2008-02-07 by I.F.
The final hardcover copies of Truancy arrived today. I really love how the design turned out. Take a look:
Inaugural Address, posted 2008-02-02 by I.F.
As the author of the Truancy novel, I am both honored and humbled to announce that this website is now open to the public. This site is far more about Truancy and its fans than it is about me, but I am proud that Truancy has been able to take on a life of its own.
I intend to leave, for the most part, the running of this website up to others more competent and dedicated than I. However, I will do my best to answer as many questions on the forums as possible, and will make every effort to update frequently on the status of Truancy now and in the future.
I look forward to being part of a community that I believe has the potential to eclipse any one person, and hope that you will as well.
Sayonara,
I.F.
Welcome!, posted 2008-02-01 by Zyid
This is the official website of the Truancy. Here you will be able to find the latest news and exclusive information about Truancy, a novel written by a student, for students. The author is a frequent visitor to the site, and if you join our upcoming forums you may get a chance to talk to him yourself. In the meantime feel free to browse the other sections for information about the book, the author, this website, and more.
We are the suffering students, the many who are ruled by the few. We are the Truancy, and we hope that in time you will come to believe, as we have, that you've always been one of us.
